How to Nail the 70s Trend Without Wearing Flared Jeans

70s style without wearing flared jeans | Midi skirt, roll neck, shades of brown and orange
Yesterday I posted a sneak peek of my new bag - "The Catherine" by Yosa (named after me!) - and as promised here's the rest of the outfit. This is what I wore to Paris the other weekend, and I wanted to nail the 70s trend in shades of orange and brown but without wearing flared jeans. But how to go about it, I hear you ask. ..?!

It's a simple case of ditching the jeans and making sure you get the right A-line midi skirt and block-heeled boots. Throw in a roll neck and huge sunglasses and you've totally nailed it (even more so if you go for sludgy/autumnal colours like I've done).

This classic look has been a favourite of mine forever - it makes me think of movies from the late 70s starring Jane Fonda or Meryl Streep. I'm sure there was one from around that time where the actress in question was a journalist and wore this exact kind of outfit, but I can't for the life of me think what it was. The closest I can think of is Jane Fonda in The China Syndrome - but if you can name the movie I'm thinking of then please tell me!

What you can't see from these pictures is that the gorgeous tan suede boots are OTK (over the knee) - this is a perfect solution for that annoying gap you sometimes get between the top of knee high boots and skirts that are described as midi but are, in fact, knee length. Unlike a lot of retailers, I personally don't think midis and knee length skirts are the same thing - to me, a true midi has to be below the knee and above the ankle.

So hats off to Asos for selling a midi skirt that is truly that, as well as these OTK boots with heels that are covered in the same fabric as the upper (I love boots made with 'matching' heels).

Are you a fan of the 70s look, and have you tried the midi skirt version like I have... What did you wear to achieve it? Tell me in the comments or tweet me @notlamb!
